I’m a big fan of Harry Dresden and the world Butcher has created. I love that Harry is a flawed character, who has made serious mistakes. Some of those mistakes were made with the very best intentions, kind of like what happens in real life.
I was a little late getting onto the Dresden Files bandwagon, only having started the series this year. The audiobooks are narrated by James Marsters (remember Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer?) and are amazing. One of the best audio book narrations I’ve heard. His voice is right up there with my favs. And the acting/reading… I almost like listening better than reading, which is saying something for me.
In this book, Harry’s old tormentor is back. The Warden who shadowed him in the first book, just hoping he would slip up, Morgan comes to Harry wounded and on the run from the White Council. Harry’s in a unique position to know exactly what if feels like to be innocent when everyone thinks you’re guilty, and has made no bones about his feelings for the Council’s brand of strict justice.
He decides to help Morgan by trying to prove his innocence. But of course things don’t go easy…
This book it an amazing example of all the pieces and details adding up and building on top of each other until the final picture makes them all click together in a picture that has you awestruck with Butcher’s mastery of weaving that all together so seamlessly. It’s also poignant and heartbreaking and I’ll admit I cried once, okay twice…
I think this might be my favorite book yet in the series, though it’s a close race. And I’m raring to go to read the next one to answer the lingering questions dropped in my lap through this one.

*The audiobook didn’t get five hearts because it didn’t allow me to switch between the ebook and the audiobook (the Kindle Read & Listen thing.) That’s not really a criticism of the audiobook, more Kindle, but it was still a pain.
What I’m reading next… CHANGES (The Dresden Files, Book 12) By Jim Butcher & SAVE THE CAT!® STRIKES BACK By Blake Snyder – Note: I don’t read a lot of craft or non-fiction, so there’s no telling how long this will take.
